Founder and President: Katie Hammer
Katie was born and raised in Kansas City. She moved to Florida in Fall of 2002 to attend Florida Gulf Coast University. She is majoring in Community Health, with a concentration in Human Occupations (pre-OT). She then plans on getting her Master's degree in Occupational Therapy and pursuing her lifelong goal of becoming an Occupational Therapist. She would like to specialize in gerontology and figures Florida is one of the best places to be for that!.
Katie has been a vegetarian since she was 8 years old (about 14 years) and a vegan for about 2 & 1/2 years. She has always felt strongly that all animals deserve a right to life and a right not to suffer. She started this club in the Fall of 2003 and has enjoyed watching the club progress. She hopes to see it grow even more and to ultimately prove that even just one person and one group of committed people working together can truly make a difference. She believes strongly in what Margaret Mead once said: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
